The Model 1874 Cap Box / Cartridge Box (Dyer design) is a piece of U.S. military leather equipment from the Indian Wars era, designed under the direction of General Alexander Dyer (Chief of Ordnance) for the U.S. Cavalry.
It was intended primarily for the U.S. Cavalry to carry and provide quick access to ammunition (.45-70 Springfield or .45 Colt revolvers).
